5 Famous songs that have the word ‘woman’ in the title

In celebration of women’s history month, I was thinking that it would be fun to think of some famous songs that have the word ‘woman’ in the title. I am a huge music fan, so that seemed like a nice exercise for my musical knowledge.

Women are, after all, fantastic creatures that have ignited musicians’ creativity over and over again throughout music history. Women have been presented as lovers, mothers, mysterious beings, heartless individuals who leave men helpless and break their hearts… There is no limit to what a woman can be and do, basically…

So try to think of a song that has the word ‘woman’ in the title. Fast! What is the first one that comes to your mind? Do tell me in the comments!

For me, it was “Girl, you’ll be a woman soon” by Urge Overkill… I heard this song for the first time on the soundtrack of the movie Pulp Fiction. Uma Thurman looks great dancing on this song by herself just before she overdoses… Of course, if you have seen the movie, you know that her character is a  junkie… Still, dancing is a great way to unwind and relax, both when you are alone and when you are with people (but especially when you are alone).

These are some other songs I thought of, in the order they came to my mind:

  • “Man! I feel like a woman” by Shania Twain – In the video, we see Shania looking sexy and confident AF, dressed in black clothes and hat. She is having so much fun in a Robert Palmer type of setting, flanked by hunky looking men wearing eye liner and sending us the message that she is an independent woman with high standards who is and does whatever she wants. Good for her!

  • “I’m every woman” by Whitney Houston – A remake of a Chaka Khan song, but Whitney’s version came to my mind faster, maybe because I grew up listening to Whitney and to the whole soundtrack of “The Bodyguard”. In the video, Whitney was pregnant and glowing with happiness. A nice way to remember her, especially since we know what fate both she and her baby had.

  • “No woman, no cry” by Bob Marley – I mean… Are women that bad? I am a woman and I am pretty great… Come on! So many people think that this song is about Marley saying that men should stay away from women if they want to be happy. That is false… This is actually a revolutionary song. The man is going to fight for the cause and is asking his woman not to cry that he is leaving. The grammar confused you? Well, it is Jamaican English…

  • “Woman” by John Lennon – Such a beautiful song! Lennon wrote this song for his wife, Yoko, and we can really understand the love and the connection these two had only by listening to the lyrics. I like the video a lot too. This seems to have been a great love and partnership.
